Born into a world seemingly incapable of treating the individual members as equals in society, they decided to form a metal band since “it was the only work we could get.” In existence since late 2005, their secrecy was due in part to internal conflicts within the band- Alin played to survive, Wolfman followed suit only so others could survive, King Bong considered his musical endeavors as ways to pass the time between drug dealin’, and GrundleGarth still had much to learn of this world and its inner workings. Combining elements of death/thrash metal, funk, and hip hop, Suggestion eventually overcame their internal strife and began to play Tampa and its surrounding areas.

I met these..er, “guys” at the Brass Mug a few weeks ago. I wasn’t sure what to do. Perhaps the answer comfortably sits with a visit to Planet Pu-C, Tampa-based Suggestion’s reported home world. Guitarist Alin, an alien DNA experiment gone awry, insists that Suggestion’s new five song CD Gorilla Warfare is, indeed, reminiscent of crushing rebellious countenance savored with sanguine metal rhythms and riffs. The guitars remind me of Paul Di’anno-era Iron Maiden with plenty of high-end crunch to spare. Songs like “Misanthropic Lycanthrope” and my personal favorite “It Might be a Chicken.” With an image crossed between The Residents, Mushroomhead, Gwar, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes, it is imperative to witness these Bay Area creative geniuses first hand. This is a live show you must, for sanity’s sake, investigate. However, it is “suggested” that rebel Pu-C scientist Pu-Ci forever lurks in the musical shadows… Just click on the picture to be methodically whooshed away to the realm of the Suggestion!
